Whenever I read a blog, I try to get a feel for who the author actual is. This can be difficult, but is often times very easy to do. Most of the time I do it unconsciously, and you probably do too. You arrive at a blog, read whichever post interests you, and then click on the about page. From that about page you can learn almost everything you need to know about the author of the blog. Does the author talk a lot about him or herself? Does the author tell you what he or she plans to accomplish? You don’t have to analyze the blog about page, just go with your gut and that first impression is usually right.
I don’t think it is about authenticity, but more so about uniqueness and personality. If you met this person face to face, would he or she become your friend and give you lasting relationship? If not, then what is the point of reading the blog? After all, you do have millions of other blogs to choose from. So what if the author is making thousands upon thousands per month on his blog. If the author won’t give you the time of day to answer a question or just seems to be too high up for anyone to yell loud enough for him to hear, find another blog. I would rather return and continue to visit a blog with a friendly and open author who has a successful attitude than a blogger who has achieved his dream and now turns his back on the readers.
